Real Love @ The Salvation Army
In the fall of 2007 the youth of Centenary started a series of projects to support The Salvation Army's ministry in Lexington, and invited all Centenary members to join in these efforts. The conregation responded. Big time! Here are the projects:
- Renovation Project: Began in mid-August, the youth revovated living quarters. No more thin mattresses, gray walls and cold tile floors for someone's "home". They purchased or had donated new twin mattresses (72); area rugs and lamps (10); baby cribs (8); baby toys and books; pillows, sheets, and blankets (72); TV and more. They also:
- painted
- sanded & refinished doors
- moved furniture
- deep cleaned
- Other Projects:
- facilitated a Christmas toy store
- conducted a food drive
- ... and a clothing drive
Bottom Line:
Many of you purchased items, donated time and money or more. Thanks !! We had over $17,000 donated towards this project, 12+ families serving on Christmas day, well over 350 toys donated, a truck load of food, a truck load of socks and underwear and many hours of painting and cleaning. Please continue to pray for the people at the Salvation Army. Also, there are more ways for you to be involved ... read on ...
What's Happening Now?
Beginning very soon, we will continue the painting project at the Salvation Army. We finished the family living area right before Christmas. We will move on to the hallways and single women’s areas. Please let us know if you are interested in painting and your availability to purchase supplies, prep, paint or clean. Call Richard Grier at 269-2800 or email him. We will begin in late February or early March. This is a project for all of those able to dip and apply - youth through seniors!
If you are interested in serving at the Salvation Army on a monthly basis through serving meals, playing games and similar activities, please contact Julie Broderson.
Thanks for your willingness to love God by loving and serving the poor of Lexington.
