National UMW
United Methodist Women is an organization of approximately one million members who raise nearly $25 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world. Our purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Centenary UMW
The Centenary United Methodist Women continue to emphasize mission as their main focus. They are supportive of a variety of mission efforts, some of which are Centenary's Love Fund, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International, Henderson Settlement, Methodist Home of KY, Methodist Mountain Mission, Nathaniel Mission, New Opportunities for Women, Red Bird Mission, the Wesley Foundation at EKU, the Fingerprint Connection in Brazil, the Shalom program at Nathaniel Mission and Centenary's Local and Global Impact Teams.
Annually they serve the dinner which the Veteran's Hospital offers to its volunteers. They prepare the lunches for the Room at the Inn
Circles
In addition to our Unit meetings as a whole, we have smaller group meetings called Circles, whose primary focus is both local and global service projects. All circles contribute to the missions listed.
- The Deborah Circle consists of women, approximate ages 25-40, who are seeking a deeper relationship with God and their sisters in Christ through Biblical fellowship. They meet the 3rd Monday of every month at 7:00 PM in a member's home.
- The Martha Circle originated with a group of women who worked in the kitchen at the church. They are proud of the name "Martha," and want to be real workers involved in the local and global ministries of the church. They meet at the church on the first Thursday of each month.
- Most of the members of the Mission Fellowship Circle are retired or of retirement age. Many members read books in the UMW reading program, and a book review is sometimes offered at our meetings. They send cards to circle members for birthdays and illnesses.
- The Pat Bloom Fellowship Circle is a very active, caring, mission-oriented group of 24 women who enjoy being together and working together. hey meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the members’ homes. This circle of women began as the Young Mothers' Circle dating back to the late 60's and several charter members still attend. Throughout the year, speakers are invited to talk about relevant topics and a $50 honorarium is sent to their favorite charity. They sponsored the first luncheon tea/style show usually held in April. All proceeds are donated to charity. In the past several years, the Deborah Circle has helped with this.
- The Piecemakers Quilting Circle was formed in July of 2005 for the purpose of making quilts for the children at the Methodist Home. Since then, they have expanded their ministry by making quilts for fund-raising auctions to benefit the Methodist Home, Nathaniel Mission, Wesley Village, AA Pregnancy Center, and the Seniors of Centenary. They have made and donated baby quilts to Nathaniel Mission and The Rock Church which were given to members of their congregations. Members of the Piecemakers Quilting Circle have individually made additional quilts for these and other worthy causes. They meet on the second Monday of each month in the homes.
